If you have not watch this superb anime movie yet, GO AND WATCH IT~!!
I watched it yesterday and it was one of the most beautiful and
touching anime movie I’ve ever watched other than Spirited Away.
PS: The writer of this post is a firm believer of anything
supernatural or things that are deemed weird under normal circumstances
so please do not bombard this author with advices like “Wake up and
face the reality instead of daydreaming and living in world of dreams.”
The author knows perfectly that this is only an anime movie but
couldn’t help getting excited about it.
The synopsis taken from wikipedia
Makoto Konno, a girl attending high school in
Tokyo’s shitamachi realises she has the power to go back in time and
re-do things (called a “time-leap”) when she impossibly avoids a fatal
accident at a train crossing one day.Bewildered, she consults with her aunt throughout the film,
who then implies that she is the protagonist (Kazuko Yoshiyama) from
the original novel. At first, Makoto uses them extravagantly to avoid
being tardy and to get perfect grades on tests. However, things begin
to turn bad as she discovers how her actions can adversely affect
others.Makoto ends up using up more of her leaps to recklessly
prevent undesirable situations from happening, including a confession
of love from her friend Chiaki Mamiya. Eventually she discovers that
she can only leap through time a limited number of times. With only a
few time leaps left, she attempts to make things right for everyone,
but impulsively uses her final leap to prevent a phone call from Chiaki
asking if she knew about time-leap. As a result, she is unable to
prevent her friend Kōsuke Tsuda and his girlfriend from being killed in
the accident at the train crossing that Makoto was originally involved
in. Devastated, time suddenly stops.Chiaki reveals that he is a traveller from the future and
leapt through time in order to see a painting being restored by
Makoto’s aunt, as it has been destroyed in the future. However, he has
used his final leap to prevent Kōsuke’s accident and has stopped time
only to explain to Makoto what the consequences will be. By revealing
his origins and the source of the item that allowed Makoto to leap
through time, and being unable to return to his time period, Chiaki
must disappear. Makoto realizes too late that she loves him as well.True to his words, Chiaki disappears when time begins again
and Makoto is upset. As she tries to come to terms with losing him, she
discovers that with Chiaki’s time-leap, he had inadvertently restored
one time-leap to Makoto. She determines that by returning to the exact
time she gained her powers, Chiaki will return and his remaining
time-leap restored. She reveals everything that he told her in the
future concerning who he is, the ability to leap through time, and his
intention to remain in her time frame. Shortly before returning to his
time period, Chiaki says he will wait for her in the future and Makoto
replying that she will run towards it.
The idea of time-leap, travel through time etc is not new as
numerous movies had been made based on this theme. 1 of my all time
favourite movie on time-travel would be the Michael J. Fox’s “Back to
the Future” (all the 3 movies). I was hooked on it as I believed that
one day, humans would be able to teleport themselves from one place to
another but till now, our technology is not sufficient for this
high-tech concept. Another good example is the novel written by Michael
Crichton, Timeline. In one of the scenes in the novel, researchers were
conducting one of the early experiments on live chicks by placing these
live creatures in the vessels believed to be able to travel through
time but when the machine was activated, instead of sending the chicks
across time dimension, the chicks were killed instantly due to the
powerful gravity/pressure pull inside their atomic structures. It was a
horrible thought and sight. For many years, the thought of time travel
fascinates humans and researchers alike, it was believed that Albert
Einstein created his theory of Relativity based on this as well.
Although almost every human on Earth is fascinated by the theory of
time travel, there are also sceptics who do not like the idea of man
playing God as it was virtually impossible for a human to travel
through time. It was logically, spiritually and most likely impossible.
The people who are able to do it are confined only in movies, films,
books and active imaginations. So whether man is able to achive the
impossible has yet to be ascertain but one thing’s for sure, I may not
survive that long to witness or experience it.
